Do You Need A Fitness Tracker to Lose Weight?

In this day in age, it seems like EVERYONE has a fitness tracker on their wrist. Whether it will be an Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit, Nike+, Misfit, WalkingDuck (okay, I made that up). My point is there are so many of them in the market today. The question you need to ask yourself is, “do you really need one?” Should you give into the pressure of society and spend $200 on something you don’t really need? Or do you have a lot of weight to lose that you need a device that would help you with your accountability? This article helps you make that decision. 

 

 

 

Pros:

  • Tracks your fitness

This is important because it helps keep you motivated to working out more and often.

The key to living a healthy life is getting adequate sleep so you can be more productive throughout the day.

All activity trackers can track the number of steps you take. Some can even tell you if you have reached 10,000 steps or not. And if you didn’t, you’re going to want to walk some more. 

  • Makes you cautious about your bad habits

By having a device on the wrist all the time it makes you cautious about eating that donut, or any other bad habit you want to give rid of when you want to live a healthy life. 

  • Great accountability partner 

To be successful at weight loss you need an accountability partner; someone who supports you in your weight loss journey. Many people use their fitness tracker as an accountability partner whenever their partner isn’t available. When I owned the Nike+ Sportswatch, it congratulated me when I ran farther than I did the day before. That was an encouragement for me to run faster and farther each and every single day.

  • Expensive

Activity trackers can go from $70 and above. Some even rising up to $750 for a tracker.

  • Not Accurate

The biggest complaint to owning a fitness tracker is the accuracy of it. Most can’t log in your strength training workouts and that’s a big component to losing weight. Also, fitness trackers are not 100% accurate. What’s the point of owning a fitness tracker if it’s not doing the only job it is supposed to do? 

  • Daily Maintenence 

This includes charging the fitness tracker and getting it repaired and replaced everytime it doesn’t work.

Should you get a fitness tracker? Well, if you have the extra money for it then why not? It’s just one down payment and it can motivate you to move consistently. But if you can’t afford it then there are other alternatives to tracking your fitness, sleep, and your steps. There are lots of apps on your phone that are able to do all that for you and you wouldn’t need a tracker.
